Job description:
We are looking for an energetic and outgoing individual for the position of :-
Driver Trainer/Safety Coordinator:
Hours: Morning - Evening Shifts (TBD)
Monday to Friday
Position Overview :
The Driver Trainer & Safety Compliance Specialist is responsible for evaluating, training, and supporting drivers to ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and a strong company-wide safety culture. This role supports driver onboarding, ongoing performance assessments, safety initiatives, investigations, and compliance tasks while working closely with the Manager, Driver Services & Compliance.
Driver Evaluation & Training :
Evaluate the performance of drivers and driver applicants to ensure skill requirements, Company policies, and legal standards are met.
Conduct classroom and behind-the-wheel training to reinforce and develop professional truck driver skills.
Provide practical advice, feedback, and input on procedural and safety-related questions.
Manage and deliver the company’s safety driver training program.
Prepare training materials, reports, and documentation for review and approval.
Act as a backup driver when required to support Dispatch in shortage situations.
Safety & Compliance :
Develop and implement safety policies to ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations.
Monitor driver performance, including logs, speeding, braking, idling, and event notifications.
Investigate incidents/accidents, determine root causes, collect evidence, and coordinate corrective actions.
Respond immediately to health and safety concerns and escalate as needed.
Conduct safety audits and inspections; manage citations and contest them when appropriate.
Review driver logs, PTIs, and other driver documentation for accuracy and compliance.
Maintain compliance records including driver abstracts, CVOR reports, and training documentation.
Manage DriverCheck accounts, schedule random drug tests, and handle clearinghouse queries.
Communicate with drivers in real time to resolve issues, concerns, or emergencies.
Provide backup support for other safety, operations, or compliance roles as required.
Driver Services & Administration :
Assist the Manager, Driver Services & Compliance with implementing formal training programs and ensuring policy compliance.
Support driver hiring, recruitment, onboarding, and progressive discipline processes.
Maintain driver hiring files and ensure all required documentation is collected.
Address driver-related issues including complaints, pre-trip concerns, log monitoring, and driving habits.
Preferred Qualifications :
Prior experience in transportation safety, dispatch, compliance, and driver training is preferred.
Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and safety practices.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Tech Savy, detail-oriented with strong record-keeping and reporting skills.
Growth mindset with willingness to take on diverse responsibilities.
Prior experience with Motive, Full Speed, TMW (Truck mate), and DocHauler is considered an asset.
